PROJECT “PERIOD CANVAS SHADE COVERS”

We now have the cost numbers on one of the major projects we would like to do in 2005.

Building new covers for the Shades (10’ x 20’ Garage Covers used for the Kitchen and Scullery used for shade and to keep rain off)

The plan is to create individual covers with 4 walls and a door in the center of each wall. This will allow us to use them together or separately and with or without the walls.

Also, we will build a free floating roof section the can be “hung” between the shades, extending them from 20’ x 20’ to 20’ x 30’. This gives us great flexibility without the cost of building a 3rd tent.

If we build using this design it will allow for many configurations (see below)

 8 Examples of use:

  • 10’ x 20’ Shades (x2)
  • 10’ x 20’ Tents with walls that can be opened (x2)
  • 20’ x 20’ Shade
  • 20’ x 20’ Tent (walled)
  • 10’ x 20’ Tents (x2) attached by a 10’ shade in between
  • 20’ x 30’ Shade
  • 20’ x 30’ Tent (one room with walls)
  • 20’ x 30’ Tent (two rooms; one 20’ x 10’ (Kitchen) and one 20’ x 20’ (Buttery / Lunch)

As you can see the flexibility of this layout is enormous. This project could also replace the “green kitchen tent,” with an easier to set up (and lighter to haul) alternative.

Let us know of any other ideas or input,
